How to hire a singer in Dubai

Seven steps from first idea to the last song. Choose the voice, plan the sets, sort the sound and the permit, and brief the singer.

To hire a singer in Dubai, decide the style your guests will enjoy, plan when the sets happen, check the sound and the permit, and send the date and venue to a booking team at least 3 to 10 days ahead. For Ramadan, Eid and National Day, start 2 to 4 weeks ahead. This guide walks through each step, so your brief is clear before you ask for a quote.

1. Start with the audience

Think about who will be in the room, not just your own taste. A young international crowd wants pop hits. A formal gala suits jazz, swing or an opera singer. Gulf families often want Khaleeji songs, and a Levantine party wants Lebanese pop and dabke. Indian weddings may want Bollywood. The most expensive mistake is the wrong voice for the room, because a singer cannot change style on the night.

2. Choose the format

  • Solo singer with backing tracks. A full sound for dancing, at the lowest price.
  • Singer with a musician. Guitar, piano, saxophone, violin or oud beside the singer, for a richer live feel.
  • Singer and guitarist. One performer, ideal for dinners and small rooms. See singer and guitarist.
  • Singer with a DJ. The DJ keeps the floor moving between sets.

3. Plan the sets around your evening

Most singers perform 2 sets of 30 minutes or 3 sets of 20 minutes. Map them to your running order: arrival, dinner, speeches, cake or first dance, and dancing. Leave a short break between sets for a playlist or the DJ, so the room does not go quiet. Tell the singer about any surprise, dedication or announcement.

4. Sort the sound

Singers come with microphones and sound, or work with the venue's AV team. An indoor room usually needs only a small PA. Gardens, beaches and yacht decks often need outdoor sound and a technician. Send the venue name and the space, so the right equipment comes.

5. Check the permit and the venue rules

A performance anywhere outside a private home needs an entertainment permit: DET in Dubai, DCT in Abu Dhabi. Hotels usually want their own approval as well, and may limit the volume or the start time of a zaffa. The team arranges the permit, but it takes a few working days.

6. Agree the details and confirm

Agree the set list, the dress code, the timings and the sound in writing. For conservative or government linked events, say if you want traditional dress and no crossover songs. A deposit secures the singer. See prices for what a quote should include.

7. Brief the singer

A few days before, send the final song list, the timings, the venue contact and where the singer should set up. Name a person on the day who can give the singer cues.
